Technology Requirements

Find the operating system you use (Nvu works on a Windows, Mac OS X, and a variety of Linux platforms click on the link to the download file for your system your computer will start to download the file automatically, or ask you what you want to do with the file - if you are asked select 'save the file to disk (or desktop)'. Download NVU (for mac, 11.7 mb) KOMPOZER - NVU 1.0, released in June 2005, is the last official release that you will find at most download sites, however, it isn't the newest or best version of the Nvu software. An unofficial bugfix/update called 'KompoZer' is available here. KompoZer is not a cure-all for all the bugs in NVU 1.0, but it does.

NVU Online courses require you to use the Canvas learning management system (as of fall 2019) on a weekly basis throughout the term. In order to ensure that you can access your course content in Canvas without problems, you should comply with the following technical requirements. Failure to meet these standards means that NVU technical support may not be able to help you resolve any technical issues that may arise.

  • Flash 31 and 32 (used for recording or viewing audio/video and uploading files)

  • Minimum of 512kbps*
  • Cable or DSL connection is optimal
  • Dial-up Internet connections are not supported

*For students taking Live Online Classes, a minimum of 2.0 Mbps is required

NVU students and employees can download Office 365 for free:
  1. Login to email using the direct link: https://outlook.office.com/owa/?realm=o365.vsc.edu&vd=mail
  2. Click on the settings gear in the upper right-hand corner
  3. Under “Your app settings” in the bottom right hand corner, select Office 365
  4. Select “Install Office” and follow the instructions

Note: Users with Chromebooks will need to use the web-based version of Microsoft tools.
